Happy New year to all. The latest and final edition of the 2010 program is under the events banner above. The new decade brings with it many changes, not least Dave Halls departure from Ovy's. Luckily he will contiune to run our events as we would be well lost with out him! Unlucky is that you cant bombard him at events for spares. Even better news is that he has said he will be sailing his own boat this year. Dont forget the Boat Show Grand Prix, even if sailing is too much for you at this time of year come along and watch it should be entertaining.

Currently Stevie and Ben are leading the 49er worlds with a strong brit following behind. Follow the action via 49er.org and the face book page.

Dont forget to follow and use our own uk facebook group link is top right.

Boat Show Grand Prix 2010

We have been invited back to Excel and asked to hold skiff racing at the London Boat Show, for the last four years it has been a tremendous success and a real crowd puller.

Once again we will have a live commentary and a feed back into the show – it is a must for anyone who needs exposure for their sponsor.

The event will take place in the docks next to Excel on the last Saturday of the show – 16th Jan. This year it will be 29ers, 49ers and B14s.

If you speak to anyone who has done it in the past they will tell you it is quite an experience, we can only take up to 10 boats per class so please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to take part.

If you would like to come there is free parking and free tickets to the show – we can usually get extra free tickets for family and friends.

The time table is 3 ( no discard) races per fleet starting at 12 for the 29ers, 1pm for the 49ers and 2pm for the B14s with a prize giving on the main stage in the show at 5pm.

Launch from the west end of the dock – full map and instructions available!

Don't miss your opportunity to take part and give your sponsors an excellent day of exposure.

Contact Dave Hall at davehallsail@googlemail.com.

Missed the Inlands? Dont despair, go next year, here is next years program - Download it here pdf. Or view it here web page.

The recent National rankers were both well attended and saw some very close and competitive racing. Paul Brotherton showed that last years Inland championship win was no fluke comfortably winning the last 3 days of racing, will Paul round of the last 12 months of 49er sailing with another apperance at the Inlands? Only one way to find out and that is to go your self it's this weekend 7th and 8th November. Expect at least some of the squad sailros to be there, but dont expect them to be in there normal teams, last years inlands saw the best racing anyone has ever seen at a domestic 49er event in the uk for many years. See you there.

If this year is just too late, then it might be worth checking out the provisional dates for next years program. Download it here.

2009 has been a year of change with new boats finally making an appearance whilst the new rigs are making pretty rapid progress throughout the fleet. There have been a few second hand ones appearing on the scene and this is likely to continue.

The flip side is a lot of cheap original masts and sails there can never have been a better time to join in the 49er events with just three class events left to go;

National Ranker at WPNSA 17/18 October
Enter Here Notice of race

Followed by multi class 9er event on 23rd and 24th October
Enter Here

And then the final and possibly the best event of the year the Inland Championships at Grafham, first week end of November.

NOW THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. THE 9ER EVENT IS PRE ENTRY ONLY. YOU HAVE TO ENTER ONLINE BEFORE THE 18TH OCTOBER. ENTER HERE

THE RANKER YOU JUST GET STUNG AN EXTRA £12 IF YOU TRY AND ENTER ON THE DAY, THATS £47 IN TOTAL £35 PRE ENTRY. ENTER HERE

As far as we are aware Grafham are leading the charge in being a nice freindly, sailor welcoming, club by allowing entry on the day with out excessive costs. But please watch this space in case they too join the draconian wpnsa. All that said these should all be fantastic events and dotn be put of my the rankers they are not that oppressive and you get to test your wits against half of the top ten 49ers in the world.

Following on from a strong peformance at the Sail for Gold regatta Chris Draper and Peter Greenhalgh returned to winning ways with a fine performance over a tricky two days of sailing. A dominating race win in survival conditions on saturday saw Chris and Peter lead John Pink and Rick Peacock across the line, these two boats were the only teams to finish with out taking a swim. Just five boats managed to start the race with one more launching and failing to make the start line! All agreed it was very windy.

Sunday bought milder weather but with a forecast that the wind would drop to near zero. The venerable Frank Newton did a typically efficient and friendly job of getting three races in before the wind finally vanished. Chris and Peter did not have it all there own way however with a number of differnt race winners. Young team of Max Richardson and Nick Reading ( appologies if that is wrong ) won the first race in fine style, John Pink taking the second and, you read it here first Paul Brotherton and Mark Asquith return to campaigning, winning the last race. Paul and Mark missed saturday with boat preperation work but were easily the best team on the water on Sunday.

Final results;

1st Chris Draper Peter Greenhalgh
2nd John Pink Rick Peacock
3rd Dylan Fletcher Alan Sighn

Lymington Open (12-13 September)
Lymington Town Sailing Club has the largest combined 9er fleet on the south coast, and is hosting its first dedicated 29er & 49er event this month. Four races are scheduled each day in the Western Solent as detailed in the NoR.

49ers should note that, following the AGM on 22/8/09, there’ll be prizes for competitors using both the standard and the new rigs at this event. There’s also lots going on in the club with a 2-course hi-carb set meal for only £8 (this also includes some novel entertainment!) and a talk by one of the Harken technical gurus on the Saturday night.

Lymington is a great holiday destination & sailing centre, positioned between the New Forest and the Solent. The club is well equipped and has panoramic views of the Isle of Weight, it’s also easy walking to the High Street and the Saturday Market. Contact Lymington29ers@o2.co.uk for more information and some very low cost accommodation options.

Nationals entrys now over 20 and rising....

Stop Press Nationals entrys up to 20 boats which is exceptional for pre entrys.....Dont forget that training is free on the Thursday and Friday....

The Nationals are just under under two weeks away and the entry list is growing. Dont forget that Ian Martin is running training on the preceeding two days and there are still places available for that.

The Nationals will be raced for with the old rigs. There are a few teams who are looking for old rigs to borrow / or rent. Please get in touch with Dave Hall if you can help. Specifically John Robertson 07795 017320 is looking for an old rig.

On the saturday night we wil have our agm. The format is fairly informal there will be the minimum of formalitys and all the comittee are prepared to stand again. However that does not preclude any one who would like to get invloved doing so.

Most importantly will be a discussion on how to run our events next year and later this year. Should we continue with the old rigs? Combine the rigs? Have more or less events? There are no answers or agenda so please come along and have your say.

Hayling will almost certainly offer a fantastic event especially now that all the bad weather has been and gone. See you there.

A reminder to all of the forthcoming events leading up to the Nationals. Hayling is always a great venue particularly in the summer months with racing at Parkstone and Draycote in the next few months. Nationals details are on the right and Links for the other events are below, where we have them!

Class training program is set up with the first training session this month in conjuction with the Datchet Open. Other training sessions are at Hayling and Weymouth, appologies to the Northern circuit, but with holding the lack of publicity the planned session at Sunderland didnt get any takers so our appologies for that. See the training page for further details.

The season has begun! The ranker at Portland was well attended and had fantastic conditions. Next event is Rutland 21 and 22 March shared with the other 9er classes so should be a good event. Weather looks great too.....

Also confirmed is the coaching / training for the year. Again this is run by Ian Martin with the first week end on the 18th and 19th April at Sunderland. It is aimed at club standard, please contact Ian Martin direct to confirm attendance. The next training will be the two days prior to the Nationals. Contact Ian Martin via e mail

Finally the cold and snow is leaving and spring is just starting to peak around the corner, with spring comes the first few events of the season beginning with the dingy show. Following the show the RYA Spring series gets us up and running on the 14th and 15th with Rutland the follwing weekend.

Important reminder for the events this year. The date of the introduction of the new rigs has been postponed until the 1st April, this means that the Ranker at Weymouth on 14th and 15th March will be raced with the old rigs.

All the 9er events will be raced this year with the old rigs. Any one with a new rig at a 9er event will be welcome to sail, but there results will not count.

If your planning to go to the dingy show please feel free to go and spend some time with Dave Hall on the 49er stand, he will sort out any one spending more than a conversation on the stand with free tickets and a T SHIRT.

Class training dates will be announced very shortly.

The new year has began with a cold start, congratulations and a welcome back to Will Henderson and, presume son, for completing a freezing Bloody Mary. This weekend is the Tiger Trophy at Rutland which looks similarly cold. Diana Fletcher is occupied at squad training so he wont be there sailing his gilrfriends 29er when it gets too windy. Good luck to the 49er contingent for the weekend.

For any one not using Facebook our class page is the place to chat and post your happenings.

Next will be the Dingy Show always a good social weekend and all the better if you get a free ticket and t shirt which of course you will get as well as a short time on the class stand.

As this will be an oversubscribed offer please get in touch with Dave Hall asap. It is a really good opportunity to show case what we do as a class in the UK which can sometimes be overshadowed by the Olympic profile.

It would be fantastic to get a good mix of sailors to represent the class at the show so dont feel you cant help out just because you have never been to an Open meeting before or you see your self as king of the Olympic circuit.

The calendar is finalised and is available via the events page above. the online version is a bit rough at some time it will get updated in a similar version to last year(see the results page to see the 08 version)

If your planning on going to the Worlds in Garda July 11 - 18 the entry is open and the website has gone live.

2008 editorial, news and general stuff can be viewed on the 2008 tab above.
