Training

In conjunction with the RYA the class association is running 3 training weekends. The first at Ullswater on the 17th and 18th May is aimed at club level sailors focussing on basic boat handling and the skills required to get around the club race course. The following week end Ullswater will be open to 49ers for an informal open / club racing weekend.

The second will be at Weymouth on the Thursday and Friday before the Nationals aimed at those wishing to improve there results at the national circuit events, this will focus on more advanced boat handling and boat speed. A perfect warm up for the nationals.

Lastly the third weekend will again be at Weymouth over the weekend of the 6th and 7th September two weeks before the International Sail for Gold Regatta, it is aimed at sailors looking to make the jump to UK Qualifiers (national rankers) and international events.

The first two week ends will be coached and run by Ian Martin who has been at the front end of the International 49er circuit for the past few years.

It is hoped that by the last weekend there will be 5 Olympic 49er medalist's to chose from to help impart there skills. More details will follow on coaching support for this weekend.

The coaching costs will be met by the RYA however there will remain some costs in expenses, these will depend some what on numbers but it is hoped that they will remain below the £40 mark per weekend.

Places are limited so to register for the these weekends please e mail your name, sail number, and a short bit about your experience - years in class, previous sailing etc. You will get a mail back to confirm reciept and will be in touch nearer the time with final details. Should the training be oversubscribed we will look into increasing the places available, but intend to keep the numbers under a sensible scale for one coach.
